Explosive, free-to-play mech battler looks to reclaim huge launch highs as its second season begins

The early indicators suggested that Mecha Break was poised for a remarkable launch, with its demo quickly ascending to become one of the most-played games on Steam. Although the free-to-play PvP title enjoyed a robust debut week in July, its player numbers saw a swift decline, failing to surpass 10,000 concurrent users since August. Today marks a pivotal moment as Amazing Seasun Games unveils the second season of the game, aiming to rejuvenate its community with a host of new features.

Introducing Season 1: Pulse of the Indigo Stone

Season 1, aptly named ‘Pulse of the Indigo Stone,’ introduces two new mechs to the battlefield. The UBP-D06A HEL and NGS-X24IT ALPHARD are both medium-weight attackers, yet they embody distinctly different combat philosophies. For players who prefer a more strategic and stealthy approach, Hel offers a reflective and deceptive toolkit reminiscent of the TF2 Spy. This mech can disguise itself as an enemy striker, complicating opponents’ targeting efforts, with the illusion only breaking upon attack or detection by recon units.

Hel’s arsenal includes a long-range emitter capable of switching between close-range and sniper modes. In close-range, it unleashes bouncing arcs of electricity that ricochet between foes, dealing energy damage. When in sniper mode, players can utilize a scope to lock onto distant targets, delivering relentless beams of plasma. Additionally, Hel is equipped with a reflector drone that can bounce incoming attacks back at nearby enemies, and a pulse trap drone that goes stealth upon deployment, staggering any adversaries that venture too close.

In stark contrast, Alphard embodies raw aggression, thriving in frontline confrontations. Its primary autocannon unleashes a barrage of 12-round armor-piercing bursts, inflicting substantial ballistic damage, while its rocket pod sidearm adds explosive firepower. Alphard’s auxiliary abilities include a volley of multilock missiles and a ‘rapid assault mode’ that propels it forward at high speed, enhancing lock-on range and reticle size, while disrupting enemy targeting.

Alphard’s electro-trail ability deploys an explosive wire that can penetrate enemy fluid armor, dealing physical damage and staggering foes. However, this ability requires the mech to be in rapid assault mode and locked onto a target, leaving a trail of smoke that neutralizes drones and disrupts any enemy strikers caught within its path. Alongside these two newcomers, Amazing Seasun has implemented a variety of balance changes across the game’s roster, aiming to enhance the viability of more options for players.

In response to player feedback regarding the scheduling adjustments that left some feeling dissatisfied at the conclusion of Season 0, Amazing Seasun has announced compensation measures. “To make it up to you, we’re rolling out compensation for everyone who logged in during Season 0,” the developer stated. Players who signed the S0 Matrix Contract will receive 12,000 Mission Tokens (not counted towards season totals) and 10 Pulse Light supply crates, while those who did not sign the contract will still receive 3,000 Mission Tokens.

Mecha Break Season 1 officially launches today, September 19, and is available to play for free on Steam. Players can also explore the full patch notes released by Amazing Seasun Games.

For those engaged with the game, optimal performance settings for both PC and Steam Deck have been tested and shared. Additionally, players are encouraged to stay updated on the latest Mecha Break codes to take advantage of any new freebies associated with the update.

As the community reflects on their experiences since launch, the anticipation builds for the upcoming adventures in Pulse of the Indigo Stone. Players are invited to share their thoughts and engage in discussions on the community Discord server, connecting with both PCGamesN staff and fellow readers.
