Android users can now pin up to 20 chats in Google Messages

In a notable enhancement to its messaging platform, Google Messages has once again increased the number of conversations users can pin to the top of their inbox. This latest update allows Android users to pin up to 20 conversations, a significant leap from the previous limit of ten. This change, first identified by Android Authority during beta testing, has been confirmed to be part of the public version of the app, specifically in version messages.android2025110300_RC00.

Google Messages has been on a journey of expansion, initially allowing only three pinned conversations. As user needs evolved, the service raised the limit to five, then to ten, and now, with this latest update, users can enjoy the convenience of 20 pinned chats. This feature is particularly useful for those who frequently communicate with specific contacts or wish to keep important conversations readily accessible.

With the new 20-pin capacity, users may find themselves scrolling through two pages of pinned conversations to reach their latest messages, assuming they utilize the full limit. Depending on the device and screen size, Google Messages can display between eight to ten conversations at a time in the inbox view, making this expansion a welcome addition for heavy users of the app.

How to Pin Chats in Google Messages

Pinning conversations in Google Messages is a straightforward process. Users simply need to touch and hold a chat in their conversation list, which will prompt an action menu to appear. From there, tapping the pin icon will secure that conversation at the top of the inbox. A small notification bubble will confirm the action, indicating how many chats are currently pinned.

Once the Google Messages app is updated, users will see a notification stating “Pinned X out of 20 conversations,” confirming the new higher limit. This intuitive feature enhances the user experience, ensuring that important discussions remain front and center in an increasingly busy digital landscape.
