Steamworks SDK adds support for Linux Arm and Android, and it seems we know the first Android game on Steam

Valve Releases New Steamworks SDK for Steam Frame

As we get closer to the launch of the new Steam Machine and Steam Frame, Valve has introduced a new Steamworks SDK that includes libraries for linuxarm64 and android. This update is specifically geared towards the Steam Frame, which utilizes an ARM64 processor and will be capable of running Android APKs, potentially attracting developers from other VR platforms.

The latest Steamworks SDK 1.63 brings several notable changes:

  • Added libs for linuxarm64 and androidarm64.
  • ISteamMusicRemote has been removed.
  • Added controller action origins for Lenovo Legion Go and generic controller in ISteamController.
  • Added input action origins for Lenovo Legion Go and generic controller in ISteamInput.
  • Added keypad scancode values in ISteamRemotePlay.
  • GetMarketEligibility in ISteamUser may now return new k_EMarketNotAllowedReason_TradeCooldown status code in MarketEligibilityResponse_t.

Furthermore, the first Android game to be added to Steam appears to be Walkabout Mini Golf. SteamDB has listed Android in the “oslist” with details pointing to the “WalkaboutMiniGolf.apk” executable file.

The future looks promising for the industry, with potential changes on the horizon by the end of 2026. It is speculated that Valve may expand Android compatibility beyond the Steam Frame to include SteamOS via the Proton compatibility layer, opening up new possibilities for the platform.
