Cyberpunk 2077 has emerged as a remarkable comeback narrative in the gaming industry. While the initial expectations surrounding its development were monumental, the game has since carved out its own identity within the expansive landscape of Night City. Today, it is celebrated as one of the finest RPGs ever crafted, standing shoulder to shoulder with CD Projekt Red’s acclaimed title, The Witcher 3. While I maintain that the Continent offers a more immersive and authentic experience, there is an undeniable allure to the adventures that await in Night City, leaving fans eager for future explorations in this sci-fi universe.
Recently, a cryptic tweet from CD Projekt Red has ignited speculation among fans, myself included, about what lies ahead for Cyberpunk 2077. As we approach the game’s fifth anniversary for PC players, the anticipation for a significant announcement is palpable. The tweet, which reads, “Secure comms channel established. Standby for incoming priority transmission,” is accompanied by two character names and specific dates, hinting at exciting developments on the horizon.
The first date, December 10, is directly linked to Cyberpunk 2077. This could signal the arrival of a new trailer or perhaps the unveiling of a previously unexplored area within Night City. Following this, on December 12, we will hear from Solomon Reed, portrayed by Idris Elba in the first DLC, Phantom Liberty. Lastly, Song So Mi, another character from the same expansion, is set to make an appearance on December 19.
If this is indeed a precursor to new downloadable content or an update, the involvement of Solomon Reed and Songbird suggests that one of the endings from Phantom Liberty may be designated as the ‘canon’ conclusion. Alternatively, they could simply be echoes of Johnny Silverhand, implanted in our minds to spread some festive cheer. The ambiguity leaves much to the imagination.
In my view, Phantom Liberty represents the pinnacle of what Cyberpunk 2077 has to offer, and any subsequent updates stemming from those events are sure to generate excitement. However, the cryptic nature of the recent post raises questions about the specifics of what is to come. Regardless, we can expect to learn more in the coming week, as CD Projekt Red prepares to unveil its next move in this captivating saga.
