Microsoft’s first Windows 11 preview build of 2026 brings more Copilot+ PC features to everyone

Microsoft has unveiled its inaugural Windows 11 preview build of the year, introducing an exciting feature that was previously exclusive to Copilot+ users. This enhancement, integrated into the Narrator app, enables it to utilize Copilot to provide detailed descriptions of images displayed on the screen. As Microsoft notes, “Last year, we introduced rich image descriptions in Narrator on Copilot+ PCs—making it possible for blind and low-vision users to hear detailed, AI-generated descriptions of images, charts, and graphs.” Now, this capability extends to all Windows 11 devices, allowing Narrator to better interpret images and visual elements.

Unlike many of Microsoft’s AI features, this particular enhancement stands out as genuinely beneficial for individuals with vision impairments. The decision to broaden access to this feature for all Windows 11 users, rather than limiting it to those with Copilot+ PCs, is a commendable move towards inclusivity.

Phone Link Integration Enhancements

In addition to the Narrator improvements, Microsoft has also announced enhancements to the Cross Device Resume capability. Previously, app developers could integrate with Resume via the Link to Windows app. Microsoft elaborates, “We’ve now introduced an additional integration path leveraging the Windows Notification System (WNS). This additional option expands the scope of users to whom you can offer Resume capability, while delivering the same seamless experience on Windows.”

The latest Windows 11 preview build, identified as 26220.7535 (KB5072046), is now accessible through Windows Update for Insiders in the Dev or Beta Channel. Microsoft has issued a cautionary note that the Dev Channel will soon transition to a higher set of build numbers, which will eliminate the option to switch between the Dev and Beta Channels. Users who wish to remain on the current 25H2 release are encouraged to switch to the Beta Channel promptly.
