SU E-Sports recently organized an engaging Minecraft Build Battle competition, inviting participants from the community to showcase their creativity. This lively event took place on February 20, 2026, from 5 to 7 p.m. in Charlie’s Lounge, welcoming walk-in participants without the need for prior registration.
In preparation for the competition, SU E-Sports held a bake sale on February 12 in Lower Deg, featuring an array of Minecraft-themed treats such as creeper crisps and dirt block brownies. The proceeds from this sale helped fund the build battle, adding a delicious twist to the event’s atmosphere.
Competition Structure and Challenges
Each participant was given one minute to select their building blocks, followed by three minutes to construct a designated structure as announced by Sebastian Caraballo, president of the SU E-Sports club. The competition featured eleven rounds, with participants tasked to create a variety of structures, including:
- A cow
- A cat
- Headphones
- A desk
- An apple
- A soda
- A pizza
- Freddy Fazbear from “Five Nights at Freddy’s”
- A treehouse
- A car
- A flower
Among the recurring players were Jason Petersen, Dylan Arruda, Crystal Davis, Milana Schmid, Leo Klinger, and Malichite Merenda, each bringing their unique flair to the competition.
The first round showcased the participants’ creativity with three interpretations of a cow. Petersen crafted a traditional cow, while Arruda presented an upside-down version, and Davis spawned multiple cows. Ultimately, Petersen emerged as the winner, with Arruda humorously noting, “You know it’s a cow because the sign obviously said cow.”
Petersen demonstrated his prowess by winning at least three rounds, including those for the cow, headphones, and desk builds. Arruda, known for his playful use of TNT blocks, incorporated explosions into his creations after each round, adding an element of surprise to the competition.
Notable Winners and Creative Builds
Other winners included Tommy Wright, who excelled in the cat build, and Malichite Merenda, who impressed with an apple build complete with apple slices. During the seventh round, participants were challenged to create a pizza. Schmid crafted a classic pizza, while Petersen opted for a “deep crust” version, and Arruda exploded his unfinished pizza build, only to create a pizza slice afterward.
Schmid not only won the pizza round but also the previous round for her glass of Coca-Cola, while both Petersen and Arruda created Sprite. Merenda shared a light-hearted moment during the inventory selection, recalling a recent visit to Barnes and Noble where he spotted a Minecraft-themed Bible.
Congratulations are in order for all the winners, who now hold the coveted bragging rights for their achievements in the Minecraft Build Battle on a PlayStation 5. The event not only fostered creativity and camaraderie among participants but also highlighted the vibrant community spirit within SU E-Sports.
