Torrent Usage Insights Across Russia
The ProResearch Center for Modern Studies, in collaboration with the National Agency for Financial Research (NAFI), recently conducted a survey exploring the usage of torrent trackers among residents of various regions in Russia. The findings reveal intriguing patterns in torrent usage, particularly highlighting the demographics of the most active users.
The survey encompassed responses from 1,600 individuals across 132 localities in 46 regions of Russia. It was discovered that the most enthusiastic torrent users tend to reside in smaller cities with populations ranging from 50,000 to 100,000. In stark contrast, only 13% of respondents from major urban centers like Moscow and St. Petersburg reported regular use of torrent services.
According to the results, a notable 33% of internet users familiar with the concept of torrents engage with them on a regular basis. However, the majority of respondents—59%—indicated that they had never heard of torrents at all. This lack of awareness is particularly pronounced among older demographics, with many pensioners encountering the term for the first time during this survey.
Interestingly, the most informed group about torrents consists of young adults aged 18 to 24. Among those who are aware of torrents, 41% possess varying degrees of knowledge: 23% claim to be well-informed, while 18% have a general understanding of the topic. Furthermore, 17% of those knowledgeable about torrents utilize them regularly, illustrating a clear divide in engagement based on age and location.
