Try before you buy: Google Play is adding game trials

One of the biggest hurdles to buying games for many people is not knowing if they’ll even like the game, and Google aims to change that with game trials on Google Play. Think about it. You don’t want to waste your money on a game you don’t like. Demos, or in this case game trials, usually do an excellent job at getting people over this hump. They get to try things out for a bit, and that could end up turning into a sale for the developer. It’s a win-win situation for all involved.

In addition to game trials, Google is adding more stuff to Google Play soon that will introduce some rather nice improvements. This includes new paid indie games, which Google says you’ll be able to play across mobile and PC, and it’s making its AI-powered Sidekick feature available in select paid games.

Game Trials will launch on Google Play soon, but only on mobile at first

If you play games on PC through clients like Steam, or on a console like the PS5 or Xbox Series X, then you know how important game demos are. They play a pivotal role in getting gamers to make purchases. Soon, mobile gamers will be getting the same treatment. It’s actually a wonder it took this long to implement. After all, Google has been offering paid games for a long time.

Google confirms that game trials will start rolling out soon to Google Play. However, it will be starting with mobile only for now. Luckily, game trials will be launching for the PC in the future. Google is just being tight-lipped on when that will be. It’s also worth noting that game trials will be for paid games. That should be obvious, as you don’t need them for free games.

New indie games are coming to the Play Store and some paid games can use the Sidekick feature

If you’re not familiar with Google’s Play Games Sidekick feature, it’s AI-powered tech that can do things like give you in-game tips and give you information that’s relevant to the game you’re playing. This will be available in select paid games soon.

Google is also bringing new indie paid games to the platform, including Potion Craft: Alchemist Simulator, which is also available on Steam and has an Overwhelmingly Positive rating. Now you will be able to take your potion making on the go. Google is also adding a wishlist feature. With this, you can save games you’re interested in but might not be ready to buy.
