Death Stranding 2 PC and PS5 major update details revealed including new difficulty mode, live-action cutscenes and more

Hideo Kojima has recently unveiled exciting new features for the upcoming PC port of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, which is also set to launch on the PlayStation 5. Scheduled for release on March 19, the game will introduce a variety of enhancements designed to elevate the player experience.

New Features and Enhancements

The PC version will support unlocked frame rates, ultra widescreen formats, and full compatibility with the DualSense controller. Additionally, players can look forward to advanced upscaling and frame generation technologies that promise to enhance visual fidelity.

During an appearance on the Japanese radio show Spacewalk, Kojima shared insights into the new modes and features that will be available on both PC and PS5. Among these is a new difficulty mode titled To the Wilder, which aims to challenge even the most seasoned players.

Players can also anticipate:

  • New live-action cutscenes that were previously cut from the game.
  • Additional scenes featuring new nightmares for the protagonist, Sam.
  • New items and replayable boss fights, including encounters with Neil.
  • A 21:9 ultrawide mode specifically for PS5 users.
  • The introduction of a Chiral Cat in Sam’s room, adding a whimsical touch to the gameplay.
  • Various gameplay adjustments informed by player data to enhance overall experience.

Critics have already lauded Death Stranding 2, with VGC naming it their Game of the Year for 2025. The publication praised it as “one of the generation’s defining titles,” highlighting its stronger narrative and refined mechanics compared to its predecessor. They noted, “It’s safer than the first, certainly, and some will prefer the attrition that Death Stranding lashes the player with, but for us, On the Beach feels like the game Hideo Kojima has wanted to make from the second he was forced to leave Konami.”
