What sets the Mind Graphics 2 apart is its use of Khadas’ proprietary 122-pin Mind Link connector, which ensures a rapid and efficient connection. Equipped with an Nvidia RTX 5060 Ti, this eGPU dock delivers ample power for high-end gaming and can significantly enhance creative tasks, such as photo and video editing.
Not so mini anymore
The sleek CNC unibody aluminum shell of the Mind Graphics 2 not only provides an aesthetically pleasing look but also functions as a secondary heat sink. This design allows the compact 2.5-liter device to house a powerful GPU without excessive noise, maintaining a quiet operation even under load. Weighing in at six pounds, it remains stable on the desk, making it easy to connect and disconnect cables as needed.
Setting up the Mind Graphics 2 is a breeze; simply place one of Khadas’ mini PCs on top, and the magnetic connection engages effortlessly. This intuitive docking process evokes nostalgia, reminiscent of the days when iPods seamlessly connected to speaker docks.
In testing the Mind Graphics 2, I replaced my existing Mind Dock in a Logitech MX Master Series-themed workspace. Despite the added height of the eGPU dock, I found ample clearance beneath my ultrawide monitor and was able to integrate dual portable monitors into my unconventional triple-monitor setup. While the integrated graphics of the mini PC allowed for casual gaming, the Mind Graphics 2 opened the door to the latest gaming experiences.
As a long-time fan of skateboarding games, I decided to put the Mind Graphics 2 to the test with the upcoming title, Skate Style. The game’s polished graphics and responsive controls ran smoothly, even with enhanced settings and DLSS enabled. The performance was impressive, showcasing the advantages of the 122-pin Mind Link connection, which eliminated the stuttering often associated with external graphics solutions.
Further testing included playing Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, which maintained a steady 60 fps even in a 21:9 aspect ratio. Although my current monitor is more productivity-oriented, I look forward to experiencing the Mind Graphics 2 with a high-refresh-rate gaming monitor to push the framerate even further. The performance continued to impress with titles like Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and the Dead Space remake, both running smoothly in ultrawide mode.
Managed modularity
Priced at ,349, the Mind Graphics 2 may not be for everyone, especially when more budget-friendly external GPU solutions exist. However, its elegant design and functionality address a common need for enhanced graphical performance in a compact form factor. The added features, including multiple video output ports, front-facing connectivity options, and integrated speakers and microphones, further justify the investment.
For those who do not require a GPU, Khadas offers the standard Mind Dock, which also enhances connectivity and includes built-in speakers and a tactile volume knob. While both docks have their merits, the ability to transform a portable mini PC into a gaming rig simply by docking is a remarkable feature.
Looking ahead, Khadas is expanding its offerings with the Mind x Play add-on, which converts a mini PC into a fully functional laptop, complete with a screen, keyboard, trackpad, and battery. As I explore the capabilities of the Mind Graphics 2, I am eager to see how it complements Khadas’ upcoming Mind Pro mini PC.
