Black Ops 7’s April Fools’ joke is very much real: the smallest Call of Duty map in history

The latest seasonal jest from Treyarch, unveiled today, showcases a playful twist on the traditional April Fools’ prank. Through a post on X, the company teased a map that appears to be no larger than a single room, accompanied by the cheerful proclamation, “Let’s get ready to start the day!” Initially perceived as a lighthearted jab at the franchise’s penchant for compact, grind-friendly maps, the announcement prompted a closer look at Black Ops 7.

Introducing GRWM

Upon logging into the game, players were greeted with a new playlist titled GRWM, an acronym for “Get Ready With Me,” a popular format among beauty creators sharing their morning routines. However, instead of a beauty tutorial featuring iconic character Alex Mason, players are thrust into an 8-player free-for-all match set within what is arguably the smallest map in Call of Duty history: a walk-in closet.

The experience is as exhilaratingly chaotic as one might anticipate. For those who typically find small maps frustrating, GRWM offers a unique charm. Unlike well-known favorites like Shipment and Nuketown, where seasoned players often exploit corners for kills, this closet-sized arena leaves little room for strategy. Players are fortunate to survive more than a few seconds amidst the frenetic action.

The optimal approach is straightforward: fire immediately upon spawning, target corners where opponents might emerge, and aim to accumulate a five-kill streak before being taken down. This setup distills Call of Duty to its essence—a performance-driven battle where the outcome is secondary to the thrill of scoring points.

Players are likely to flock to GRWM for its grinding potential. In a mere five-minute match, I managed to level up twice, a feat partly attributed to my relatively low account level. With a staggering 57 kills achieved, the map proves to be an excellent opportunity for unlocking weapons and attachments. However, given its nature, it seems this delightful diversion may only be available for April Fools’ Day itself.
