The latest patch for Slay the Spire 2 has officially transitioned from beta to the main game, marking a significant evolution in this beloved roguelike deckbuilder. Mega Crit has rolled out a series of four updates that have collectively enhanced the gameplay experience, particularly for those who may have been hesitant to dive into the beta branch. Players can now expect improved map generation and a more forgiving Act One, although the journey becomes more challenging as infinite combos are harder to achieve and card removal costs escalate with progression.
Key Enhancements and New Features
Right from the outset, players will notice five new Neow relics that add exciting twists to their runs:
- Hefty Tablet: Offers a choice between three rare cards at the cost of an Injury curse.
- Neow’s Talisman: Upgrades one Strike and one Defend card.
- Phial Holster: Adds an extra potion slot and provides two random potions.
- Winged Boots: Allows players to ignore paths when selecting rooms, up to three times, returning from the first game.
- Neow’s Bones: Grants two randomly chosen Neow relics along with one random curse.
The early game experience has been refined, with elite enemies now appearing one floor later, giving players a moment to breathe. Rebalancing efforts have addressed troublesome foes like the Skulking Colony, while the Living Fog has been tamed to spawn just one bomb per round, preventing overwhelming situations. Additionally, Byrdonis has been adjusted to have less health, though it deals slightly more damage.
Revamped Boss Encounters
One of the most notable changes is the complete redesign of the Act Three boss, Doormaker. This encounter now begins with a unique infinite-health setup round against the Door, followed by a turn-based cycling through three distinct phases:
- Hunger: Exhausts each attack or skill played.
- Scrutiny: Prevents all card draw for the turn.
- Grasp: Causes a loss of one energy for every card played.
Players will need to strategize carefully as they approach this formidable challenge.
Class Rebalancing and New Cards
All five classes have undergone rebalancing, featuring card reworks and the introduction of new options. For instance, the Ironclad now has access to the Colossus card more frequently, while the Silent will encounter fewer Acrobatics due to their synergy with Sly cards. Noteworthy new cards include:
- Not Yet: A new Ironclad card that heals for ten.
- Blade of Ink: A Silent card that generates Inky Shivs inflicting Weak.
- Regent’s Arsenal: Applies Strength for all cards, not just colorless ones.
- Borrowed Time: A redesigned Necrobinder card that grants energy at the cost of increased card costs for the turn.
In addition, shop relics have seen a price reduction of 25 gold, while gold-generating relics will no longer be available for purchase. The Ascension level six adjustment means players will no longer face ‘Gloom’ but will instead contend with ‘Inflation,’ which raises card removal costs significantly.
Visual and Gameplay Enhancements
Beyond gameplay adjustments, the patch introduces a wealth of new art, including visual effects for attacks and energy counters. A ‘Phobia mode’ has been added, allowing players to tone down the more unsettling designs. Players will also receive Badges at the end of runs to commemorate key achievements. Currently, leaderboards are limited to friends-only, with global scores set to return in the future, albeit without invasive anti-cheat measures.
Slay the Spire 2 patch 0.103.2 is now live for all versions of the game. Players should note that achievements and epochs can no longer be unlocked during daily and custom runs. As the main and beta branches will now maintain separate records, players can choose between experiencing the latest changes or enjoying a more stable gameplay environment.
