New First-Person Shooter Dethrones Windrose to #1 Best-Selling Steam Game

Last weekend, Windrose captured the spotlight as the best-selling PC game on Steam, surpassing notable titles like Crimson Desert and Pragmata. However, just a week later, this pirate survival game has been unseated by a new contender in the first-person shooter genre, which is also in early access. Priced at less and released two weeks later, this fresh title has quickly climbed the Steam charts, surprising many, especially given the developer’s previous offerings had not garnered much attention.

The Rise of Far Far West

At present, the top position on the Steam charts is held by Far Far West, a co-op first-person shooter designed for 1-4 players, developed by Evil Raptor and published by Fireshine Games. This title has achieved an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating on Steam, the highest accolade a PC game can receive on the platform, alongside its impressive sales performance. In just a few days, Far Far West has amassed nearly 7,000 user reviews, boasting a remarkable 97% approval rating.

As players dive into the world of Far Far West, they are invited to form a crew of bounty-hunting robot cowboys, taking on perilous contracts from the local sheriff. Alternatively, players can choose to embark on solo missions. Regardless of the approach, the objective remains clear: track down and eliminate dangerous targets.

An Unexpected Steam Hit

As we look ahead to 2026, few would have predicted Far Far West would ascend to the top of the Steam charts, particularly considering the developer’s past releases. In 2020, Evil Raptor launched Pumpkin Jack, which garnered a modest 2,824 user reviews over six years. While this debut was respectable, it pales in comparison to the current success of Far Far West. The developer’s subsequent title, Akimbot, released in 2024, struggled to make an impact, with only 628 user reviews to date, indicating a potential setback for the studio. Now, with Far Far West, Evil Raptor has firmly established its presence in the gaming landscape.

Currently, Far Far West is available at a promotional price of .99, reflecting a 10% discount until May 5. However, the question remains: can this first-person shooter maintain its top spot amidst the anticipated releases of major titles such as Subnautica 2 and Forza Horizon 6? If Far Far West can hold its ground until then, it may face formidable competition. Nevertheless, this achievement marks a significant milestone for Evil Raptor.
