Release of qBittorrent 5.2.0

On May 3, 2026, the latest iteration of the torrent client, qBittorrent 5.2.0, was officially released. This version, developed using the Qt toolkit, serves as an open-source alternative to µTorrent, boasting a similar interface and functionality. The project’s source code, crafted in C++ and JavaScript, is accessible on GitHub under the GPLv2+ license.

qBittorrent is available for various operating systems, including Linux, Windows, and macOS. The journey of this project began with the release of version 4.0 in November 2017, followed by version 5.0 in September 2024, and version 5.1 in April 2025.

The core features of qBittorrent include an integrated search engine, RSS feed subscription capabilities, support for multiple BEP extensions, remote management via a web interface, sequential downloading in specified order, advanced settings for torrents, peers, and trackers, a bandwidth scheduler, and an IP filter. Additionally, users can create torrents and benefit from UPnP and NAT-PMP support.

The enhancements and fixes introduced in qBittorrent 5.2.0 primarily focus on addressing previously identified bugs and improving user experience:

  • An advanced tracker status filter has been added.
  • Restrictions on the use of subcategories have been removed, allowing for individual upload limits for torrents tied to subcategories. When a category is deleted, torrents will now move to the parent category.
  • Asynchronous block calculations for torrents have been implemented.
  • Resume times for paused downloads have been reduced.
  • Users can now configure the refresh time for selected RSS feeds, including an option for mask-based filtering.
  • The search engine now supports operation through SOCKS4/SOCKS4a proxies, expanding filtering capabilities for search results.
  • In the Windows version, the torrent creation interface now allows the use of symbolic links.
  • The Linux version includes an option to limit RAM consumption during deletions.
  • The web interface has been enhanced with functionalities for creating new torrents, filtering trackers by status, and adding or removing trackers for individual torrents. Horizontal tab scrolling and API key authentication have also been introduced, alongside a new torrent addition interface. GIF icons have been replaced with SVG vector images.
  • Support for builds with Qt 6.5 has been discontinued.
  • An option to copy paths to the contents of selected torrents has been added.
  • A system reboot option after torrent downloads have completed is now available.
  • Users can disable color indicators for torrent status.
  • A setting for managing the lifespan of DNS host name resolution cache entries has been introduced.
  • The status bar now displays information about available storage space.
  • External programs can now receive comments associated with torrents.
  • The toolbar buttons for adding torrent files and links have been swapped.
  • Translations have been updated.
  • Users can customize the colors of download progress panels and maps, with an option to reflect torrent status in the progress bar color.
