The latest monthly hardware survey from Steam, the leading platform for PC gaming, has unveiled a noteworthy trend: a significant portion of gamers continues to favor Windows 10, even after its end-of-life (EOL) status was officially declared on October 14, 2025. As of now, over 25% of gamers remain loyal to this operating system, prompting an exploration into the reasons behind this enduring preference.
Here’s why gamers still use Windows 10 even though it reached EOL
Windows 10 has undergone a decade of feature updates and bug fixes since its launch in 2015, culminating in a level of stability that many users find appealing. With the cessation of feature updates, the likelihood of encountering disruptive changes or system failures has diminished significantly. This stability is particularly attractive to gamers, who prefer to avoid the frustrations associated with crashes and blue screens of death (BSODs) that can occur with newer systems.
1) Windows 10 is at its peak stability
With years of refinement, Windows 10 has reached a point where its performance is reliable, providing gamers with the peace of mind that their systems will function smoothly without unexpected interruptions.

One of the standout features of Windows 10 is its compatibility with older hardware.
