Google AI Studio has learnt to create Android apps from a text query

In a significant leap for mobile app development, Google has unveiled a new feature within AI Studio that allows users to create native Android applications directly from text descriptions. This innovative service automatically generates Kotlin code and employs Jetpack Compose for crafting the user interface, streamlining the entire development process.

Seamless Development Experience

With this enhancement, developers can now build Android apps without the need to install Android Studio, SDKs, or any additional libraries. The entire development experience unfolds in the browser, making it accessible and user-friendly.

AI Studio comes equipped with a built-in Android Emulator, enabling users to test their applications in real-time. This feature allows for running, editing, and testing applications without relying on a local development environment, thereby simplifying the workflow.

Moreover, Google facilitates the immediate installation of completed applications on Android smartphones via USB, utilizing the integrated Android Debug Bridge. For those looking to share their creations, AI Studio supports publishing builds directly to Google Play’s internal test track through the Google Play Console.

Versatile Application Capabilities

Once an application is created, users have the option to export their projects as a ZIP archive or push them to GitHub for further development in Android Studio or other integrated development environments (IDEs). Google emphasizes that this service is particularly well-suited for developing simple utilities, applications utilizing the Gemini API, and those requiring access to various Android hardware features such as GPS, Bluetooth, NFC, and the camera.

Looking ahead, Google has announced plans to expand AI Studio’s capabilities with future support for Firebase, Firestore, Firebase Auth, and tools for managing Google Play testers directly from the platform. This aligns with the company’s broader vision unveiled during Google I/O 2026, which also included advancements like Gemini for Science, Gemini 3.5 Flash, and the introduction of smart glasses developed in collaboration with Samsung.
