Bungie isn’t immediately making Destiny 3, is planning layoffs, reports Bloomberg

Bungie’s Strategic Shift: A New Chapter for Destiny

In a move that has stirred the gaming community, Bungie has announced that Destiny 2 will no longer receive live service content updates. This decision has ignited speculation among fans, with some suggesting that it could pave the way for a potential Destiny 3. However, sources close to the situation, including Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier, indicate that Bungie is not rushing into the development of a sequel.

Currently, there are no specific projects greenlit for the Destiny 2 development team, leaving fans to ponder the future of the franchise. The studio’s former CEO, Pete Parsons, previously noted that Bungie had been stretched thin across multiple “incubation projects.” This term resurfaced in the recent announcement, highlighting the studio’s intention to transition from Destiny 2 to focus on incubating its next games.

Among the projects in the pipeline is a spin-off titled Payback. Meanwhile, Bungie’s latest title, the extraction shooter Marathon, has launched successfully but has not met sales expectations from either Bungie or its parent company, Sony. In response to this, Bungie is taking steps to broaden its audience by introducing a more casual PvE mode in an upcoming update, aiming to attract players from the Arc Raiders community.

As the gaming world watches closely, I have reached out to Bungie for further insights into its plans following the conclusion of Destiny 2’s updates.
