Victims of cheaters in Marvel Rivals will be refunded all the ranked points they lost if they report them thanks to NetEase’s new Anti-Cheat Rank Compensation System

In the realm of online competitive multiplayer gaming, encountering cheating is as inevitable as spotting fish in the ocean. However, Marvel Rivals has recently found itself grappling with an alarming surge in cheating incidents, akin to a salmon run in full swing. The situation escalated to the point where some cheaters openly flaunted their exploits through streaming and social media, deriding high-ranked players for their skills. In response, NetEase initiated a ban wave and announced significant updates to its anti-cheat system. Yet, many players felt that these measures fell short of addressing the core issues plaguing the game.

New Measures to Combat Cheating

To alleviate the frustration among its player base, NetEase is set to introduce a new Anti-Cheat Rank Compensation System later this week. This initiative aims to provide relief to players who encounter cheaters during matches. As outlined by the company, if a player successfully reports a cheater and the system confirms the violation, they will receive a full refund of all Ranked Points lost in that match. It is important to note that this compensation does not apply to Placement Matches, which do not award points.

Additionally, this new system, dubbed the “Victim Compensation Protocol,” was conceived in response to a recent epidemic of players intentionally sabotaging competitive games. Similar compensation systems have been implemented in other popular titles like Overwatch and Valorant, showcasing a growing trend in the industry to protect players from unfair practices.

While the introduction of this compensation system is a commendable step, it does not tackle the underlying issue of deterring cheaters. The current punitive measures appear insufficient to dissuade the majority of offenders. Given that Marvel Rivals operates on a free-to-play model, account bans alone are ineffective, as creating new accounts is a straightforward process. To truly combat cheating, more stringent measures such as hardware or IP bans may be necessary. Although NetEase is currently implementing some of these harsher penalties, they represent only a fraction of the overall ban efforts, leaving many players skeptical about their effectiveness.
