Unveiling 1666: Amsterdam
During the recent Summer Game Fest livestream, Patrice Désilets, the visionary behind the Assassin’s Creed franchise, took center stage to unveil the much-anticipated debut trailer for his upcoming adventure game, 1666: Amsterdam. This dark, third-person action title features a compelling protagonist—a witchy figure named Noa—who has already captured the hearts of many gamers.
Set to launch in early access later this year, players can get a taste of the game with a 30-minute demo available on both Steam and the Epic Games Store. As someone who identifies with the brooding, enigmatic cat lady archetype, I find myself eagerly downloading the demo as I write this.
The journey of 1666: Amsterdam has been anything but straightforward. Initially conceived during Désilets’ tenure at THQ Montreal, the project faced numerous hurdles after Ubisoft acquired the studio in 2013. Following his departure from Ubisoft, Désilets engaged in a legal battle for the rights to the game, a struggle that has ultimately culminated in today’s reveal.
The trailer showcases a visually stunning world, and there is palpable excitement surrounding Noa’s character. The development team at Panache Digital promises that players will navigate through multiple timelines, beginning in the year 1666 and progressing to 1999 and the present day. This unique narrative structure invites players to unravel the mysteries of the world, ultimately piecing together “fragments of a larger truth.”
While an exact release date remains under wraps, the prospect of experiencing 1666: Amsterdam in early access later this year is certainly something to look forward to for fans of immersive storytelling and rich gameplay.
