Fumito Ueda knows that you’re worried about Gen Atlas’s framerate

Following the release of the trailer for Gen Atlas, the highly anticipated new title from the renowned director Fumito Ueda, reactions have emerged in two distinct waves. The predominant sentiment has been one of enthusiastic praise, as fans express their excitement for Ueda’s return to game development after a decade since The Last Guardian.

However, a notable counterpoint to this excitement has surfaced, with some viewers fixating on the trailer’s performance issues. Specifically, comments regarding the framerate have drawn attention, particularly in light of the community’s previous experience with The Last Guardian. Players had discovered a workaround that allowed the game to run at a smoother 60 frames per second on the PlayStation 5, a stark contrast to the less stable 30 fps that characterized its original PlayStation 4 launch.

As a result, when certain scenes in the Gen Atlas trailer appeared somewhat choppy, it was only natural for viewers to voice their concerns. Ueda, however, was not taken aback by the feedback. In a candid interview with PC Gamer, he acknowledged the team’s awareness of the trailer’s optimization status. “Our team is well aware that parts of the trailer were not fully optimized, so I’m not surprised to hear and see those comments,” he remarked.

Ueda’s confidence in the community’s resourcefulness is evident, as he hinted at the potential for modders to step in should performance issues persist. “If not, well, I have no doubt that the modders will come running,” he added, suggesting a belief in the collaborative spirit of the gaming community.
