An obscure new game-breaking Destiny bug lets you one-hit bosses, and I don’t think Bungie’s gonna let this one slide

Update (June 16): Bungie has opted to allow a notable bug to persist until sometime next week. “Go ahead,” the developer encouraged players. “Get out there, beat up on Atheon. Destroy some bosses. Do your thing.”

Live Service Transition

With the conclusion of Destiny 2’s live service ambitions marked by its final update last week, Bungie has introduced a plethora of new features, including catalysts for every Exotic weapon and some intriguing, albeit broken, perk combinations. In a landscape devoid of new endgame content or the need to maintain balance, players find themselves liberated with an array of the most entertaining—and overpowered—tools available.

Interestingly, Bungie may not have anticipated a return to the chaotic ‘Craftening’ era, a time characterized by a bug in the crafting system that allowed players to transfer perks from one weapon to another, including Exotics. For those unfamiliar with this phenomenon, it was a wild time in the game’s history.

Take, for instance, the Kindling Flame perk, which can stack to create ignitions on any hits against unscorched enemies. Players can also utilize seven Pack Tactics mods alongside the Warlock’s Mataiodoxia Exotic to summon an overwhelming army of Threadlings. Alternatively, imagine harnessing seven Thunderous Retort mods combined with a max Super stat to transform Titan’s Thundercrash into a formidable nuclear bomb.

Moreover, a current bug permits players to equip multiple instances of the same artifact perk, leading to even more outrageous builds. While the freedom to experiment in this ‘do what you want’ phase of Destiny is exhilarating, it is likely that this particular bug will be addressed swiftly due to its disruptive nature. Yet, there is something almost poetic about such a glitch emerging at the twilight of the game’s lifecycle. Some aspects of gaming, it seems, are destined to remain unchanged.

For those who have yet to conquer certain raids or dungeons, now presents an opportune moment to tackle them. In fact, utilizing some of the aforementioned builds, players may even find themselves capable of soloing encounters that once seemed insurmountable.
