Google Photos’ latest UI experiment has one job: getting CapCut on your phone

Google is currently exploring a fresh wave of sharing features within its Google Photos application, particularly aimed at enhancing user experience and collaboration. The latest update, version 7.83.0.943371825, introduces an intriguing option for users to seamlessly export media to CapCut, the popular video editing app developed by ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok.

New Sharing Options in Google Photos

This new functionality manifests itself in the export sheet that appears when users select multiple photos or videos from their folders. A notable addition is a new row of options positioned beneath the existing ones, with the first option allowing direct export to CapCut for editing purposes. Should users not have CapCut installed on their devices, they will be prompted to download it directly from the Play Store, ensuring a smooth transition to editing their media.

In addition to this new feature, the familiar three-dot button continues to provide access to the standard Android share sheet, offering users typical suggestions for sharing. However, it is essential to note that this feature is still in the testing phase and is not yet available to the general public. The functionality was activated through modifications to the app’s package, indicating that Google is actively experimenting with potential enhancements.

While an APK teardown has unveiled these promising features, it’s important to remember that not all predicted functionalities may make it to a public release. As Google continues to refine its offerings, users can look forward to a more integrated and versatile sharing experience within Google Photos.
