After an extensive two-and-a-half-year journey through early access, Palworld is set to officially launch tomorrow, July 10. This milestone brings with it a mix of excitement and caution for players, particularly regarding the game’s modding community.
Modding Considerations for the 1.0 Release
In a recent announcement, Pocketpair reassured players that the game’s price will remain unchanged, a welcome relief for many. However, they also issued a warning about potential complications stemming from outdated mods. For those returning to the game after a hiatus, remnants of old and possibly problematic mod data could pose challenges.
Pocketpair expressed their enthusiasm for the modding scene, stating, “We look forward to seeing all the amazing mods that will be made after 1.0.” Yet, they emphasized the importance of following specific guidelines to ensure a smooth transition to the full release.
- Backup Your Save Data: Always prioritize backing up your save data before making any changes.
- Delete Old Files: Navigate to your game directory and remove the following folders:
- PalBinariesWin64
- PalContentPaks
- Verify Game Files: Use Steam to verify your game files to ensure everything is intact.
- Check Game Launch: Confirm that the game launches properly before proceeding with the 1.0 update.
- Manage Steam Workshop Mods: If you are subscribed to any mods, unsubscribe and manually delete any associated data.
Pocketpair also advised against reinstalling any mods until their developers confirm compatibility with the 1.0 version. They recommend a cautious approach by reintroducing mods one at a time to monitor for any issues, as the studio clarified, “Please note that issues that occur while using MODs, or modified game data, are not covered by support.”
