Pavan Davuluri, president of Windows and Devices at Microsoft, has outlined a strategic focus for the remainder of the year, with a primary emphasis on reducing the memory footprint of Windows 11 on devices equipped with just 8GB of RAM. This initiative builds on previous enhancements aimed at improving overall performance within the operating system.
“We’re going to take everything we’ve learned since March and keep listening and closing the loop on your feedback. The signal from you is clear: keep going. We intend to,” Davuluri stated, highlighting the company’s commitment to user experience.
While specific methods for optimizing performance on machines with limited memory were not disclosed, Davuluri emphasized a broader goal of enhancing memory efficiency for systems with 8GB and above. The aim is to ensure that Windows 11 delivers a fast and responsive experience, regardless of the hardware limitations.
This memory optimization initiative is part of a larger effort by Microsoft to address ongoing user concerns regarding system sluggishness and bloat. The company has already implemented various adjustments to improve the launch speeds of essential tools such as Start, File Explorer, Search, and the Snipping Tool. Additionally, Microsoft has refined Search results to eliminate promotional clutter and resolved issues related to Bluetooth and printer connections.
In conjunction with performance tuning for 8GB systems, Microsoft plans to streamline the initial PC setup process, making it faster and more efficient. Enhancements will also be made to family safety controls and system-wide voice interaction capabilities.
