The newly added maps are now part of the campaign list in the remastered version of Quake. Remarkably, these updates are available at no extra cost to anyone who already owns Quake on Steam, as well as on current and last-generation consoles, including PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo.
In a backdrop of industry changes, it has come to light that a significant number of employees at the original Quake developer, id Software, faced layoffs amid Microsoft’s extensive reorganization of Xbox. Despite this, the majority of the studio has been concentrating on the recent Doom reboot series. Meanwhile, MachineGames has taken the lead in producing new content for Quake, and so far, it appears that this studio has not been as heavily impacted by the layoffs, although further changes are anticipated within the Xbox organization in the upcoming months.
Despite the challenging context, it is heartening to witness classic PC games like Quake receiving new maps and content years after their initial release. Similar to the resurgence of Age of Empires II, Quake has experienced a revival, fueled by its remaster and the introduction of official content over the past few years.
