Google has embarked on an intriguing journey within its Play Store, introducing a novel feature that is currently being tested among select users. This new addition, dubbed “Expand everything,” aims to enhance the search experience by automatically expanding search results.
Exploring the “Expand Everything” Feature
Initially spotted in the Play Store’s “Play Labs” section, the feature has made its debut, allowing users to see more information about apps without the need to manually expand each result. Screenshots shared by a Telegram user, @sameerasw, illustrate how this feature operates. When activated, search results are displayed in an expanded format by default, eliminating the need to tap the downward arrow typically found next to app names.
In this new setup, the arrow icon transforms from an expander to a collapsible tool, providing users with the flexibility to streamline their view as needed. While this enhancement offers a more detailed glance at each app, it does come with the trade-off of occupying more screen space, resulting in fewer visible results at any given time.
Easy Access and User Control
For those eager to try out this experimental feature, enabling or disabling it is straightforward. Users can simply tap their profile picture within the Play Store, navigate to the “Play Labs” option, and toggle the setting according to their preference. This user-centric approach allows individuals to customize their search experience based on their needs.
Currently, the rollout of the “Expand everything” feature appears to be gradual, with only a limited number of users gaining access thus far. As is typical with Google’s phased rollouts, there is anticipation that this feature will soon become more widely available, enhancing the Play Store experience for a broader audience.
