My old Android phone runs faster after one quick change

Amid the myriad frustrations of modern technology, one common grievance stands out: a sluggish processor. Users often find that even after diligently deleting apps and clearing out their photo galleries, their devices continue to lag. This slowdown can manifest in various ways, such as a noticeable delay when capturing photos, with images taking their sweet time to appear in the gallery—or worse, disappearing altogether. The experience is further compounded by the sluggishness of apps, which seem to take an eternity to open.

As we look ahead to 2026, the prospect of upgrading may seem daunting, especially given the inflated prices of RAM that make it challenging to secure value for money. However, before you consider a costly upgrade, there’s a simple adjustment that could extend the life of your smartphone for another year or two.

To breathe new life into your device, navigate to your settings and locate the “Animations” option. Depending on your phone’s manufacturer, this might be tucked away in a sub-menu—on my device, it was found under “Additional settings.”

Once there, select “Remove animations” or “Disable animations.” This straightforward tweak can significantly enhance your smartphone’s performance.

The result

To my surprise, this minor adjustment yielded remarkable results. Almost instantly, my smartphone regained its former vitality, feeling as if it had been rejuvenated. The difference was palpable, transforming a frustrating experience into one that was smooth and efficient once more.
