Google Messages is on the verge of unveiling a significant user interface transformation, as indicated by recent findings in the latest build of the app. The changes, which are currently enabled behind the scenes, aim to enhance user experience, particularly focusing on the Search functionality.
In the current setup, the Start chat floating action button (FAB) is positioned in the bottom-right corner, with the Gemini button directly above it and the Search button nestled in the top right of the header. However, the revamped interface shifts the Gemini button to the header, replacing the existing Search icon. This reorganization places the Start chat button at the bottom center of the screen, alongside the Search button, making both features more accessible for users navigating the app with one hand.
One of the most intriguing aspects of this redesign is the dynamic behavior of the buttons. Upon opening Google Messages, the Start chat button is prominently expanded at the bottom. Yet, as users scroll through their conversations, this button collapses, allowing the Search button to expand in its place. This thoughtful design reflects Google’s understanding of user intent, ensuring that the most relevant option is readily available at the right moment.
The relocation of the Search button to the bottom aligns with a broader overhaul of the Search experience within Google Messages. Earlier reports indicated that Google was working on a redesigned Search interface that would enhance usability by moving the search bar to the bottom and introducing larger previews for images, videos, and links in search results.
More Google Messages changes may be on the way
Beyond the Search and navigation layout, additional enhancements to Google Messages may be forthcoming. Previous observations have noted a redesigned interface for pinned conversations, which aims to provide larger contact icons and message previews when new messages arrive. While this feature is still under development, it could potentially be rolled out alongside the other anticipated changes.
