ARMSX3 PS3 emulator can finally run games at playable frame rates with new update

ARMSX3 PS3 Emulator Update Brings Major Improvements

When the team behind the popular PS2 emulator ARMSX2 launched its PS3 emulator, it was just a proof of concept. As such, it had several issues, including the fact that most games didn’t run at a playable frame rate. Now, the devs have released an update that brings several improvements, including useful tweaks to touch controls.

The update was announced in a Reddit post detailing a laundry list of improvements to the emulator. ARMSX3 now supports PS3 themes as library backgrounds. Users can set up pictures, slideshows, animated themes, and full 3D scenes that play live in the library background. According to the devs, they tested the feature with 92 dynamic themes, and each one played properly.

Users can add custom backgrounds by tapping the three-dot menu icon, then tapping Change background > Add. To limit battery usage, ARMSX3 plays themes at 30fps and pauses playback when users leave the app.

Most importantly, the update fixes issues with several games. The ARMSX3 emulator can now run Helldivers at 60fps on Android handhelds like the AYN Odin 3. It can also run games like Race the Sun at 60fps and Don’t Starve: Giant Edition at 30fps.

The update also fixes crashes in titles like NBA 08, Burnout Paradise, Killzone 3, and The Guided Fate Paradox. Previously, these games either crashed at launch or got stuck in an infinite loop of loading screens or cutscenes.

ARMSX3 now supports SIXAXIS motion on motion-enabled controllers. It also adds touch-control features previously seen in ARMSX2 2.7. Users can now enable glide modes and multiple macros with pressure-sensitive touch controls in ARMSX3 1.0.

For players with multi-game discs, ARMSX3 now displays each game as its own tile. It also lets users load directly into a saved game by long-pressing the game’s tile and choosing an existing saved state.

There are several other improvements in ARMSX3 1.0. The emulator can now play trophy sounds, leave space for display cutouts in portrait mode, swap discs for games that require another disc, launch games directly without adding them to the library, and much more. You can find the full list of changes and updates on the ARMSX3 GitHub.
