TITAN Xp Finally Runs on Windows XP Thanks to a Modded NVIDIA Driver

A modder known as SupraGSX has made waves in the tech community by releasing an unofficial Windows XP driver on GitHub, designed to support NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 10-series “Pascal” graphics cards, including the powerful TITAN Xp. This driver, dubbed Forceware 382.69, is essentially a patched version of NVIDIA’s older 368.81 driver from July 2016, and it is specifically tailored for 32-bit Windows XP systems.

Driver Details and Compatibility

The timing of this release is somewhat amusing, considering that NVIDIA ceased regular driver support for Pascal graphics cards last year, subsequently removing these models from its 590 driver branch. Nevertheless, Forceware 382.69 encompasses a range of graphics cards, including:

  • GTX 1060
  • GTX 1070
  • GTX 1070 Ti
  • GTX 1080
  • GTX 1080 Ti
  • TITAN X (Pascal)
  • TITAN Xp
  • Some GTX 900-series and Quadro cards

In addition to broad compatibility, the driver introduces support for DisplayPort 1.4 HBR3 and HDMI 2.0, enhancing the multimedia capabilities of older systems. SupraGSX has pointed out that while these features are included, not every model was individually validated, which leaves some room for uncertainty.

Performance Enhancements

The latest build, released on October 4, addresses OpenGL crashes specifically on Pascal cards, a fix that has been verified on the GTX 1080 Ti. However, support for GP107 cards, such as the GTX 1050 Ti, remains experimental and has not been tested on actual hardware.

Interestingly, a user on X, known as @TheBobPony, shared a screenshot from GPU-Z showcasing a GTX 1080 operating on Windows XP, describing the driver as “vibe coded.” While this intriguing claim has yet to be substantiated—especially since the project’s README and release notes do not reference any AI tools—it adds an element of curiosity to the mod’s reception.

Despite the excitement surrounding this unofficial driver, users are advised to exercise caution and refrain from installing unverified drivers on their primary machines, whether AI-coded or not. Nonetheless, the initiative deserves recognition for its role in keeping the spirit of the “XP on XP” meme alive in the tech landscape.
