Microsoft Addresses LG Monitor App Concerns
Owners of LG monitors have expressed frustration over an automatic prompt that appears when connecting their devices to Windows 11 PCs. This prompt encourages users to download the LG Monitor App Installer, which subsequently suggests the installation of McAfee antivirus software. Recognizing the growing discontent among users, Microsoft has intervened to address the issue.
Pavan Davuluri, the executive vice president of Windows and Surface, highlighted the matter earlier in July after receiving feedback from an LG monitor customer. On July 22, he confirmed that Microsoft had reached out to LG’s team to facilitate a swift resolution.
“Thanks again for bringing this to our attention. We’ve connected with the team at LG and as an immediate next step, they have agreed to disable the McAfee pop-up from their app. We appreciate LG working with us toward a shared goal of a better experience for our mutual customers. We will keep improving here with our ecosystem partners,” Davuluri stated.
As previously reported by Mezha, the concerns surrounding the LG app extend beyond the unsolicited software installation. Users have raised alarms regarding the extensive permissions granted to the app, which reportedly has access to “all system resources” and the Internet connection. Notably, this practice is not isolated to LG; other manufacturers, including Alienware and Samsung, have been observed engaging in similar behaviors.
