A Dispatch sequel is a whole lot more likely now that Dispatch season 1 is such a big hit: ‘We’re going to have to at least think about season 2 now’

In a remarkable turn of events, the workplace comedy game Dispatch has emerged as an unexpected success story in the gaming industry. Developed by Ad Hoc Studios, a team comprised of veterans from the renowned Telltale Games, Dispatch achieved a significant milestone by selling one million copies within just ten days of its release. This impressive feat has sparked discussions about the potential for a second season, even though the first season has yet to be fully unveiled.

Renewed Hopes for a Second Season

Pierre Shorette, co-founder of Ad Hoc Studios, shared insights during a recent interview on the Friends Per Second podcast, expressing optimism about the future of the game. “We’re going to have to at least think about season two now,” he remarked, reflecting on how the game’s success has transformed what was once a mere consideration into a promising opportunity. “That was a question mark three weeks ago. So that’s great—it’s a very cool problem to have.”

The legacy of Telltale Games looms large in the industry, leaving many to ponder whether Ad Hoc can fill the void left by its predecessor. While the question of whether Dispatch will maintain its momentum or fade into obscurity remains unanswered, the initial interest is undeniable. According to data from SteamDB, the game launched with an impressive 12,707 concurrent players on Steam. This number surged to 66,000 on October 29 with the release of episodes three and four, and then doubled again to over 131,000 when the fifth and sixth episodes were made available on November 5.

As the final episodes are set to release on November 12, expectations are high that the player count will continue to rise, further solidifying the case for a second season. With such compelling numbers, the conversation surrounding Dispatch is likely to evolve, keeping both fans and industry observers engaged in the unfolding narrative of this burgeoning franchise.
