Even after 26 seasons, the excitement of securing a late-game care package weapon in Apex Legends continues to captivate players. The infusion of confidence and aggression that comes with wielding one of these formidable guns can transform even the most cautious players into fierce competitors. In a recent conversation with PCGamesN, weapons designer Casey O’Brien shared intriguing details about the upcoming Apex Legends Season 27, hinting at a significant change that is sure to turn heads.
Innovative Weaponry in Season 27
O’Brien revealed that the CAR SMG will soon make its debut in the care package, but with an exciting twist on its dual ammo feature. The return of the Double Tap hop-up, now available for the Alternator, suggests that the weapons team at Respawn is embracing a season of experimentation. This creative approach promises to keep the gameplay fresh and engaging, ensuring that Apex Legends maintains its status as a leading battle royale game.
Replacing the Triple Take, which will revert to floor loot, the CAR is set to become a “very exciting” addition to the care package arsenal. O’Brien teased that, much like its ability to switch between light and heavy ammo, the CAR will offer a unique way to toggle between two powerful fire modes. Although she initially hesitated to reveal too much, lead game designer Eric Canavese encouraged her to share more details.
In a moment of candidness, O’Brien disclosed that the care package CAR will feature Disruptor rounds, allowing players to alternate between Disruptors and Hammer Points. This innovative mechanic will provide a dynamic gameplay experience, adding a layer of strategy to weapon selection.
Another significant change in Season 27 is the introduction of the Double Tap hop-up for the Alternator. This reliable SMG will see a notable increase in fire rate and damage output. Unlike its traditional use, the Double Tap will enable both barrels of the gun to fire simultaneously, potentially establishing it as a dominant force in close-range combat. However, O’Brien reassured players that it won’t be as overpowering as the Disruptor was in the past.
She explained, “As opposed to the Disruptor, which was just raw power, I do think that the Double Tap has some interesting, almost self-built-in drawbacks and benefits, more so than Disruptor did.” This nuanced approach aims to enhance the overall gameplay experience, making it more enjoyable and engaging for players.
Apex Legends Season 27 is set to launch on Tuesday, November 4. As the release date approaches, further insights from the development team will shed light on additional changes, including legend rebalancing and updates to ranked play.
