Chaos Cubed Composer Interview

Memories, Ebb, Home, Shores, Nightly and Bounce

Paula, a talented composer, initially assigned temporary names to her tracks, a practice she found amusing in hindsight. These titles emerged as simple descriptors, capturing the essence of the emotions she aimed to evoke through her music. Despite their provisional nature, these names have become permanent fixtures in the minds of listeners.

Reflecting on the unexpected permanence of these titles, Paula shares, “I never thought the temporary names would be the final ones, but now looking back, I find it really funny. Lots of people are confused about why some tracks play in different biomes that don’t make sense with the name, but I just didn’t know! I still think they are names that fit the tracks, though!”

The soundtrack itself is a rich tapestry of sound, described by Paula as “emotional, nostalgic, playful, introspective, and dreamy.” This blend of characteristics invites players to immerse themselves in a unique auditory experience.

For those with a penchant for collecting, the game offers an exciting feature: players can loot in-game music discs containing tracks from Paula’s soundtrack. These discs can be played on a craftable jukebox, allowing players to enjoy the music in their own virtual spaces. One standout track, Bounce, is particularly noteworthy, as it can be found in a notably sulfurous location within the game world.

When asked about Bounce, Paula expressed her enthusiasm for the creative process behind it. “I was given complete creative freedom for the [music] disc. I just made a track that felt fun to make and to listen to, something to bang your head around in a really chill way, and really going all the way in with adding my own style to the game. I wanted it to feel kind of unique and to add something else to the rest of the discs.”
