‘Couldn’t afford a PC so I drew one’ says one Redditor after drawing a God-tier cel shaded case mod for his kids to play Minecraft on

If there’s a way to elevate the classic “my dad’s better than your dad” rivalry, it’s by transforming a gaming PC into a vibrant masterpiece reminiscent of Borderlands or a comic book. Nathan, known as SuccessfulHost6375 on Reddit, took on this creative challenge for his children.

Transforming the Ordinary into the Extraordinary

Nathan recalls his first gaming PC case—an unremarkable silver structure adorned with a clumsy plastic squiggle. It was a far cry from the aesthetic appeal one might desire, especially in the eyes of a 12-year-old. Fast forward to today, and Nathan has turned that childhood experience into an opportunity to craft something visually captivating for his kids.

“I rebuilt this older PC for my kids to bash Minecraft on,” Nathan shared in his post. “I wanted something that didn’t look as boring as that poor old Antec case in generic plastic black, so I opted for a cartoon/anime effect.”

Curious about the details of his project, I reached out to Nathan, who revealed that while much of the design was meticulously planned, some aspects emerged serendipitously. “I was a car painter of sorts about 12 years ago, so I know my way around spray painting. As for the sketch effect, I literally had an idea in my head and just winged it. It turned out way better than I ever expected!”

The foundation of this artistic endeavor is an Antec VSK 3000 Elite-U3 case, which has undergone a remarkable transformation through layers of paint. Nathan detailed the process: after disassembling the case, he roughed up the surfaces, primed and sealed them, and then applied a flat white base coat. He then masked off areas to spray two coats of flat red paint. After allowing it to dry for 24 hours, he meticulously added line work and accents using black POSCA paint pens of varying sizes.

“The line work is all done by hand, using a piece of wood wrapped in soft cloth to rest my hand on. It involved lots of stopping and starting, waiting for things to dry. In total, I spent about 7 hours on the project, spread over 4 days,” Nathan explained. Once the line work was complete, he sealed it all with two light coats of matte clear for protection.

Inside this eye-catching case lies a solid build featuring an Intel Core i5 10400, 16 GB of DDR4 RAM, and an Nvidia GTX 1070. While this may not be the powerhouse for modern AAA gaming, Nathan clarified its purpose: “This was basically a project to make the computer my kids use for Minecraft a bit more interesting. I hope their friends think it’s cool when they come over.”

He also mentioned that he’s in the process of painting the screen stand, keyboard, and mouse to match the vibrant theme of the PC. In a whimsical twist, one might find themselves tempted to dive into a late-night Minecraft session, with the glow of the screen illuminating the intricate chassis lines, creating a scene that feels almost noir in its charm.
