Games might be lost as Amazon set to discontinue its app store on Android

Amazon to Discontinue Android App Store

Amazon has announced that it will discontinue its app store on Android, with operations set to cease on August 20, 2025. This decision may result in apps and games downloaded through the store losing their functionality.

Amazon Coins, the currency used for in-app purchases or app purchases on the store, are no longer being sold as of February 20, 2025. However, users with a positive balance can still spend them until operations come to an end. The company has assured that unused Amazon Coins purchased in the past will be refunded after August 20, with more details on the process to be provided at a later date.

Fire TV and Fire Tablet devices will still retain access to the app store, while only the Android version is being shut down.

In the past, Amazon heavily promoted its app store, even offering many apps for free to attract users. This strategy is reminiscent of what Epic Games is currently doing with the Epic Games Store. As a result, many gamers may have amassed a significant library of mobile games through the Amazon app store.

Using Amazon Coins often came with a slight discount on in-app purchases, which was beneficial for games like Hearthstone and others.

Users are advised to download any purchased or claimed apps from the store onto their devices before the shutdown. While Amazon has cautioned that content may not function properly without the app store, this is not a definitive outcome.
