In a significant shift for the highly anticipated adaptation of the acclaimed video game franchise, Amazon’s God of War television series is reportedly undergoing a complete overhaul. According to Deadline, several key figures have exited the project, including showrunner and executive producer Rafe Judkins, along with fellow executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus.
This change appears to stem from a desire by both Sony and Amazon to explore a different creative direction for the series. Despite initial praise for the scripts that had been developed, the decision has been made to start anew with an entirely fresh writers’ room.

Amazon first announced the green light for the God of War TV series in December 2022, generating considerable excitement among fans and industry insiders alike. At that time, Katherine Pope, president of Sony Pictures TV, expressed her enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, “We are so proud and excited to be working with our friends at Amazon Studios and our partners at PlayStation Productions to adapt this beautiful and heartbreaking game into a premium live-action series.” She highlighted the creative contributions of Rafe, Mark, and Hawk, who were tasked with crafting a narrative that would navigate the rich tapestry of Kratos’s ancient mythological journey.
