Google taps into retro arcade nostalgia with this in-browser Breakout clone

Google Introduces Block Breaker Game

Google has expanded its library of in-browser games with the introduction of a new block breaker game. Players can search for “block breaker” on Google to start playing this nostalgic game that involves bouncing a ball off a sliding paddle to break blocks.

Besides just breaking blocks, players can also grab functional upgrades and extra balls to enhance their gameplay experience. The game adds twists like modifiers that change the paddle’s behavior, exploding blocks, and the need to avoid downgrades.

Block Breaker joins other classic in-browser Google games like Pac-Man and Minesweeper, offering a fun and engaging experience for users. The compact size of the playfield keeps the gameplay moving at a brisk pace, with new sets of blocks sliding down after each level is cleared.

Whether you know it as “block breaker,” “Arkanoid,” or “DX-Ball 2,” the game is reminiscent of Atari’s Breakout arcade game. Interestingly, before founding Apple, Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs both worked on designing Breakout hardware, adding a unique connection to the smartphone world.

After playing Block Breaker, users can explore other games available through Google Search’s carousel feature. For more news tips, you can email the Android Authority staff at news@androidauthority.com, either anonymously or for credit.
