Google’s Enhanced Gaming Profiles Coming Soon

If you play games on Android, you may have noticed the option to sign in with a gamer profile provided by Google Play. This week, Google announced enhanced gaming profiles that will have a significant impact on gaming on Android.

Global Rollout Starting September 23, 2025

Starting in less than four weeks, on September 23, 2025, Google will be rolling out enhanced gaming profiles globally. However, gamers in the UK and the European Economic Area will experience a slight delay, with their rollout starting on October 1, 2025. This change will affect anyone with a Google Play account, even those who use it on PC only.

Google Gains Access to More Data

  • Information about your game activity, including the games you’ve played, when, and for how long.
  • Data from certain games that provide Google with in-game activity details like progress, achievements, and rankings.
  • An option to import historic game data into the new profile.

Google emphasizes that this data is crucial for powering the new features, such as showcasing game progress and stats, building gaming communities, and improving the overall gaming experience on Google Play.

Default Privacy Settings Remain Intact

Google assures users that the change will not alter their privacy settings. Profiles set to private will remain private after the migration. Users can adjust their privacy settings by navigating to Settings > Google > Settings for Google apps > Play Games > Profile and privacy. Options include “Everyone on Google Play Mobile App,” “Friends only,” and “Only you.”

While the path to these settings may vary depending on the device, users can also find an option to delete their gaming profile and game data in the same menu.

As Google prepares to collect more data about Android gaming habits, the question remains: is this change beneficial for gamers or simply a way for Google to gather more information? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
