GTA 5 is getting a huge free update for PC players

Rockstar Games has unveiled an exciting development for fans of the Grand Theft Auto series. Players of GTA 5 on PC will soon have the opportunity to upgrade to an enhanced version of the game at no cost. This upgraded edition is set to launch on March 4, 2025, and promises to elevate the gaming experience to match or even exceed the capabilities of the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions.

Enhanced Features and Technical Improvements

The new version will introduce a wealth of enhancements, including:

  • Additional content for GTA Online
  • Significant technical upgrades
  • Improved support for higher resolutions, aspect ratios, and frame rates

Among the technical advancements are features such as ambient occlusion and global illumination, alongside ray-traced shadows and reflections that debuted on current-gen consoles. Furthermore, the game will support AMD’s FSR1 and FSR3, as well as Nvidia’s DLSS 3, enabling players to boost performance without sacrificing visual quality.

Players can also expect significantly faster loading times, taking advantage of speedy SSDs and the DirectStorage API. Additionally, the game will incorporate support for the PS5’s DualSense controller, featuring adaptive triggers, and enhanced audio capabilities, including Dolby Atmos for improved sound fidelity in speech, cinematics, and music.

GTA Online Enhancements

GTA Online players stand to gain the most from this upgrade, which will introduce:

  • Access to the GTA+ subscription program
  • A variety of new vehicles and modes
  • An improved landing page for quicker access to activities

While the upgrade is free, it does come with updated hardware requirements. Players will need a minimum of 16GB of RAM, an Nvidia RTX 3060 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 CPU, and an SSD to run the enhanced version. However, Rockstar assures that those with lower-spec hardware will still be able to play the existing versions of GTA 5 and GTA Online without interruption.

Importantly, players will have the ability to transfer their single-player and multiplayer progress to the new version, ensuring a seamless transition without the need to restart their gaming journey. As anticipation builds for the forthcoming GTA 6, expected to release in late 2025, this upgrade serves as a testament to Rockstar’s commitment to enhancing player experience in the beloved franchise.
