Google Play Games Profiles Get a Social and Customization Makeover

Google Play Games profiles are undergoing a significant transformation with a new design that focuses on social interaction and customization. The updated layout introduces a follower system, a more public-facing profile, and fresh options for personalizing your gaming identity, all accessible directly from the Play Store. If you’re curious about how these changes will look, we have a sneak peek for you.

As reported by The Verge, Google has confirmed that the update will start rolling out globally on September 23, with the EU and UK following on October 1. The revamped profile will be seamlessly integrated into the Play Store, allowing for quicker access without the need for the separate Play Games app. We were able to activate the feature in the latest Play Store beta, offering a glimpse of how it all comes together in practice.

Once enabled, the redesigned profile page lets you customize your gamer name and image directly within the Play Store. Instead of being limited to standard avatars, you’ll now have a variety of styles to choose from, including anime, pixel art, and claymation, hinting at the AI avatar generator spotted earlier this year.

Your Play Games level and Play Points tier remain visible, but they are now accompanied by a new follower and following system, giving the profile a more interactive feel akin to platforms like Steam.

Achievements and stats are still present but have been reorganized to coexist with the new customization and social features. Coupled with the community forum feature discovered last month, it appears that Google is transforming the Play Store into a vibrant gaming community hub rather than just a digital storefront.

Google assures that the updated profile will automatically appear once the rollout begins, with visibility settings carrying over by default. Users will also have the option to make their profiles public to connect with other players. While there’s no guarantee that all the features we’ve uncovered will be exactly as shown upon rollout, it seems highly probable at this stage.

⚠️ An APK teardown offers insights into potential features that may be introduced in the future based on ongoing code development. However, it’s important to note that these predicted features may not necessarily make it to a public release. Thank you for being a part of our community.
