Hideo Kojima posts a cryptic message about ‘editing’ something and an awful lot of people are convinced it means Death Stranding 2 for PC will be announced later this week

Every so often, the thought crosses my mind that Death Stranding 2 is not available on PC. In fact, it happens with such regularity that it feels almost like a recurring dream. This isn’t a critique of the game itself; rather, it highlights a peculiar trend in the gaming industry. After all, as former Sony executive Shuhei Yoshida noted back in 2025, releasing PlayStation titles on PC is akin to “printing money.”

Hints of a PC Release

Recent whispers suggest that Death Stranding 2 might soon make its way to PC. This speculation is not merely based on the notion of timing; Hideo Kojima appears to be dropping subtle hints about a potential release. In a recent post on his English-language X account, he shared an image of a PC monitor displaying the phrase “A Hideo Kojima game.” This could pertain to any number of projects, as Kojima Productions is currently engaged in several endeavors, including OD, PhysInt, and an unnamed collaboration with Niantic.

However, what caught the attention of many was the accompanying calendar for Death Stranding set for 2026, which appeared on the ESRB website in November 2025. This unexpected reveal has certainly fueled speculation.

Furthermore, a significant event is on the horizon: a State of Play showcase scheduled for February 12. This presents an excellent opportunity for the company to announce that one of its flagship titles is finally making the leap to PC. There’s even talk of a potential ‘Director’s Cut’ release, although this remains purely hypothetical at this stage.

While all of this remains speculative, the response to Kojima’s post has been overwhelmingly optimistic, with many expressing confidence that a PC announcement is imminent. Personally, I hesitate to make any definitive claims, yet the odds seem favorable for a positive outcome. It’s worth noting that this speculation likely has no connection to Kojima’s recent decision to withdraw from his GDC keynote; it’s unlikely he suddenly decided, “Now is the time for the PC port!”

As we await the upcoming State of Play, it seems prudent to keep an eye on the event. Not only could we receive news regarding Death Stranding 2, but there are bound to be other exciting announcements as well. The showcase will commence at 2 PM PT/5 PM ET, streaming live on both YouTube and Twitch.
