Hollow Knight Steam concurrent peak hits 71k ahead of Silksong release

Hollow Knight Sees Unprecedented Player Surge

The indie phenomenon Hollow Knight has recently achieved a remarkable milestone, reaching a peak of over 71,000 concurrent players on Steam. According to data from SteamDB, the game recorded an impressive 71,083 users engaging with it at its highest point over the past weekend. As of now, the player count remains robust, with over 69,000 individuals immersed in the game.

This surge in player activity is particularly noteworthy, as the game’s concurrent player figures have skyrocketed by nearly 800 percent in just the last month. A significant factor contributing to this surge is the announcement from developer Team Cherry regarding the long-anticipated sequel, Silksong, set to launch on September 4th. The excitement surrounding the sequel has undoubtedly rekindled interest in the original title.

Originally launched in 2017 after a successful Kickstarter campaign, Hollow Knight has sold over 15 million copies since its debut. The recent spike in player numbers suggests that sales have continued to flourish, particularly in light of the buzz generated by the upcoming sequel.

Despite concerns regarding the lengthy development process of Silksong, Team Cherry co-founder Ari Gibson reassured fans that the project has been progressing smoothly. “We’ve been having fun,” he stated, emphasizing that the development journey is primarily a vehicle for their creativity. “It was never stuck or anything. It was always progressing. It’s just the case that we’re a small team, and games take a lot of time. There wasn’t any big controversial moment behind it.”

As anticipation builds for Silksong, the enduring success of Hollow Knight serves as a testament to the game’s lasting appeal and the dedication of its creators.
