However, the bar has been set high following the remarkable success of A Minecraft Movie last year, which captivated audiences of all ages. Jack Black, a key figure in this phenomenon, recently shared his reflections on the experience.
A Minecraft Movie achieved unprecedented success, becoming the highest-grossing film in the domestic market of 2025, amassing an impressive total of 8.3 million globally. The excitement surrounding its theatrical release played a significant role in this achievement. Black drew parallels between the audience’s fervor for A Minecraft Movie and the cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which he recalls experiencing as a child. He noted:
“Those kids going nuts in the theaters carried us for months. It reminded me of when I went to see Rocky Horror Picture Show. I was probably too young, but my big sister took me along, and it was an incredible experience of audience participation. That’s a special thing to be part of.”
In an interview with USA Today, Black expressed his enthusiasm for the audience’s reactions to A Minecraft Movie, likening it to the lively screenings of The Rocky Horror Picture Show that gained popularity in the late 1970s. Recently, Jason Momoa shared that he has read the script and found it hilarious, indicating that production is expected to commence in April of this year, with a release date set for July 23, 2027. Fans eagerly anticipate seeing Black reprise his role as Steve, undoubtedly walking taller in the wake of the film’s remarkable triumph.
