In the expansive world of the co-op pirate survival game Windrose, players are greeted by a vast ocean map adorned with numerous islands and atolls. Upon first glance, one might ponder the logistics of traversing such a grand landscape: is fast travel an option, or will every journey require a lengthy sail on a pirate ship? The answer lies in a blend of exploration and crafting, as fast travel is indeed a feature, though it comes with its own set of prerequisites.
Windrose: How to Fast Travel
At the outset, players find themselves confined to their starter island, where they embark on a journey to master the fundamentals of combat, exploration, and crafting. As they progress through the initial quest titled “How My Shore Adventure Began,” they will encounter their first significant crafting milestone: the creation of a Fast Travel Bell.
To craft this essential item, players will need:
- 10 copper ingots
- 3 ropes
Additionally, players may stumble upon a Fast Travel Bell as loot by exploring shipwrecks scattered across their starter island or by opening chests found along the beach. However, the bell alone is not sufficient; players must also construct a Fast Travel Point. This can be accessed via the build menu by pressing B and navigating to the Crafting & Utilities tab.
Crafting a Fast Travel Point requires:
- 20 wood
- 1 Fast Travel Bell
How Fast Travel Works
To utilize fast travel, players must establish at least two Fast Travel Points in distinct locations. If the intention is to place one on a different island, a voyage is necessary to gather the required crafting materials and construct it on the beach. Notably, Fast Travel Points can only be positioned near water, such as at a dock, prohibiting placement in the interior of an island.
While on foot, players can only fast travel between established Fast Travel Points. However, while sailing on a Ketch, fast travel becomes accessible at all times, provided the player is not engaged in combat or being pursued by enemies. In a unique twist, players can activate fast travel from any point at sea by simply opening the map and selecting their desired Fast Travel Point, without needing to be physically present at the location.
In co-op mode, the mechanics take an interesting turn. For instance, while sailing with a friend named Wes, the player discovered that initiating fast travel resulted in their character teleporting alone, leaving the ship behind. This unexpected occurrence required the player to summon their ship to their new position, adding a layer of surprise to the experience.
Beyond player-created Fast Travel Points, the world of Windrose also features existing points, such as those found at faction bases. Locations like Tortuga or the Buccaneer faction’s Island offer campfire fast travel points that can be utilized after a player’s initial visit, enriching the exploration experience.
