Four years ago, Genshin Impact emerged victorious against claims of being merely a ‘Breath of the Wild clone,’ and in doing so, it propelled gacha games into the mainstream consciousness of Western PC gamers. Now, Infinity Nikki stands at a similar crossroads, poised to challenge the ‘Genshin clone’ narrative while introducing dress-up games to a PC audience that has yet to embrace them fully.
Infinity Nikki is set up to strike a very hot iron while everyone is completely primed to get into another dress-up game.
Infinity Nikki is the latest installment in a series of fashion-centric gacha games that have previously been confined to mobile platforms. My colleague and devoted fan of the Nikki series, Mollie Taylor, humorously summarized her experience at Gamescom this summer by dubbing it “dress-up Genshin Impact.” Having immersed myself in the game for at least 15 hours over the past week—though I suspect it may be closer to 20—I find myself in agreement. Unlike Genshin Impact, which lost my interest after about ten hours, Infinity Nikki has me captivated, leaving me eager for more as I cling to this test account, reluctant to part with it until Infold Games decides to reclaim it.
A passion for fashion
Infinity Nikki unfolds as an open-world adventure where players step into the shoes of a young stylist who finds herself transported to a whimsical realm known as Miraland. Here, she discovers that a mysterious artifact called the “Heart of Infinity” has been embedded in her chest by a goddess reminiscent of a character from a Dark Souls game. Following an audience with Ena the Curator, Nikki is given a vague quest to seek out the “miracle outfits,” leading her to the picturesque Florawish, where fashion reigns supreme.
As the gaming community buzzes with excitement, Infinity Nikki is currently undergoing several closed beta tests on both PC and mobile platforms. While an official launch date remains elusive, the game’s App Store listing features a placeholder date of December 31, igniting anticipation among fans that it may debut before the year’s end. The momentum is palpable, and the stage is set for Infinity Nikki to carve out its niche in the ever-evolving landscape of gaming.
