Krafton makes further cuts to Striking Distance

Krafton, the South Korean gaming powerhouse, has recently undertaken another round of layoffs at its subsidiary, Striking Distance Studios, the creative force behind The Callisto Protocol. This development first surfaced on LinkedIn, where affected employees shared their sentiments regarding the job cuts that have impacted the studio.

Operational Adjustments

In a subsequent confirmation to PC Gamer, Krafton acknowledged the layoffs while emphasizing that Striking Distance remains operational. A spokesperson for the company stated, “Striking Distance Studios has reduced the size of its team to remain agile, which creates a sustainable environment for the studio at its current stage of development.” This strategic decision, according to Krafton, is aimed at fostering a more adaptable and resilient work environment.

The spokesperson further reassured stakeholders that the studio’s ongoing support for its projects will not be affected by these changes, adding, “No further changes are planned at this time.”

This is not the first instance of workforce reduction at Striking Distance; earlier in 2023, the studio laid off 32 employees, representing approximately 20% of its workforce at that time. Founded in 2019 by industry veteran Glen Schofield, known for his work at Sledgehammer Games, Striking Distance made its mark with the launch of The Callisto Protocol in 2022, a title that has since garnered significant attention in the gaming community.
