Minecraft: How to Tame a Zombie Horse

Minecraft’s latest update, Mounts of Mayhem, has introduced a delightful array of new content, enriching the sandbox experience for players. Among the highlights is a unique addition to the game’s fauna: the Zombie Horse. Contrary to what one might expect from its undead nature, this new mob exhibits a surprisingly calm demeanor, akin to that of a regular horse.

While the Zombie Horse may appear to be a companion to its undead counterparts, it is, in fact, quite docile. Players eager to add this intriguing creature to their collection can consult our guide on how to tame a Zombie Horse.

Where to Find a Zombie Horse in Minecraft

Zombie Horses spawn in a manner similar to other undead mobs, primarily in the Savanna and Plains biomes. Here, they can be encountered as Zombie Horsemen, where a Zombie armed with a spear rides the Zombie Horse. Notably, players will not find these creatures appearing as Zombie Foals.

It’s important to note that the Zombie Horseman is a hostile entity. Thus, players should be prepared for an attack from both the Zombie and its steed. Alternatively, players can summon a Zombie Horse directly using the /summon command.

How to Tame a Zombie Horse

Taming a Zombie Horse begins with defeating its Zombie rider. To facilitate this process, having some Red Mushrooms on hand is advisable, as they are essential for taming. Players should first eliminate the Zombie rider, taking care to avoid harming the Zombie Horse in the process. Using a Bow and Arrow can be effective, but caution is required to prevent collateral damage.

Once the Zombie rider is defeated, the Zombie Horse will become passive, allowing players to approach without fear. By utilizing the secondary action button—right-clicking in Minecraft Java Edition—players can feed the horse the Red Mushrooms, which will restore its health.

After healing, players can mount the horse by right-clicking again. It may take several attempts, but eventually, an animation of hearts will signify that the Zombie Horse has been successfully tamed.

How to Ride a Zombie Horse

With the Zombie Horse now tamed, players can ride it, but they will need a Saddle to do so. Crafting a Saddle requires 3 Leather and 1 Iron Ingot.

To equip the Saddle, place it in the main inventory slot and right-click on the Zombie Horse. This action will automatically put the Saddle on the creature.

Once the Saddle is in place, players can right-click again to mount and control their Zombie Horse. Additionally, pressing the Inventory key (E for Minecraft Java Edition) opens the Zombie Horse inventory interface, allowing players to add Horse Armor for extra protection.

It’s crucial to remember that Zombie Horses are vulnerable to sunlight, which can cause them to take damage. Therefore, equipping Horse Armor is essential for safeguarding your Zombie Horse, enabling you to ride it safely during daylight hours.
