New Features in Minecraft’s Latest Snapshot
The recent release of the Minecraft Java snapshot, dubbed Chaos Cubed, introduces an exciting array of features designed to elevate the gaming experience. Among the highlights is the Sulfur Caves biome, a visually striking environment characterized by its Sulfur Springs that beckon players to explore the vibrant interiors filled with Sulfur and Cinnabar blocks. This new biome promises to be a playground for creativity and adventure.
Players will discover that the water pools within the Sulfur Caves contain a novel block known as Potent Sulfur. This intriguing addition generates gas bubbles that can induce nausea in players who venture too close. For those looking to harness this resource, Potent Sulfur can also be crafted from regular Sulfur blocks by combining nine of them, adding a layer of strategy to resource management.
At the heart of this snapshot is the Sulfur Cube, a unique mob that resembles a slime. This creature possesses the remarkable ability to absorb nearby blocks, transforming into a ‘ball-like’ state that takes on the properties of the absorbed item. Players can revert the Sulfur Cube to its original form using Shears, allowing for versatile gameplay. Currently, the Sulfur Cube can exhibit nine different behavior types, each influencing its movement and interaction with the environment. For instance, the ‘light’ variant, created from wool blocks, is perfect for minigames like volleyball, while an icy block variant offers a ‘fast sliding’ feature reminiscent of curling.
In addition to these captivating features, Mojang has made several adjustments to existing mechanics, particularly concerning Beds and Slime Blocks. The new mechanics allow Slime Blocks to continuously bounce mobs when air drag is removed, leading to altered behaviors that players will notice during gameplay.
Another significant change is the transition from OpenGL rendering to Vulkan, although OpenGL will remain available for older hardware. This shift aims to optimize graphics processing, favoring dedicated graphics cards over integrated systems. Players can easily check their current display settings by pressing the F3 key.
The Minecraft 1.26.2 snapshot is now accessible for Java edition users and can also be tested in the Bedrock preview. With the full release of the Chaos Cubed update anticipated in June, players are invited to delve into the new mechanics and features that this snapshot has to offer, paving the way for innovative gameplay experiences.
