Minecraft-like Hytale has already sold enough to fund the next two years of development, and it’s not even out yet

Hytale’s Development Secured Through Pre-Purchases

In a remarkable turn of events, Hypixel Studios has announced that the pre-launch sales of Hytale have generated sufficient revenue to fund the next two years of the game’s development. This news comes just ahead of the highly anticipated early access release scheduled for January 13.

Hytale, an RPG-like sandbox experience reminiscent of Minecraft, has been in development since 2015. The project attracted significant attention when Riot Games, the developer behind League of Legends, invested millions and subsequently acquired Hypixel in 2020. However, the journey took a tumultuous turn last year when Riot decided to halt the project, leading Hypixel to announce plans to “wind down” operations.

Against all odds, Hytale has emerged from this setback. Hypixel co-founder Simon Collins-Laflamme revealed that he successfully acquired the game from Riot at the end of last year, reigniting interest in the title. As the early access launch approaches, Collins-Laflamme expressed optimism, predicting that Hytale would attract one million players on its release day. He encouraged potential players to download the game’s launcher in advance, as it will only be available for purchase through the studio’s website during this phase, aiming to alleviate potential server strain.

In a recent social media update, Collins-Laflamme shared the encouraging news regarding the financial backing for Hytale’s future. “Pleased to announce that we have officially secured the next two years of development costs through pre-purchases,” he stated. He further emphasized his personal commitment to the project, indicating a strong outlook for Hytale’s development.

For those eager to join Hytale’s early access, Hypixel offers three purchasing options: the standard edition priced at .99 USD, the Supporter Edition at .99, and the Founder’s Edition at .99. The latter two editions come with exclusive cosmetic outfits and capes, enhancing the gaming experience for early adopters.
